The new Meteorological Thermodynamic Profiler MTP7 + was developed in cooperation with the Institute for Applied Astronomy Moscow, Russia. MTP7 + is a radiometric complex designed for the remote sensing of tropospheric meteorological parameters.
The system consists of a scanning part which measures the atmospheric radiation step by step from the horizontal to the vertical position as well as a static radiometer part. The scanning measurement is carried out at 56.7 GHz and is used to determine the vertical temperature profiles up to a height of 1000 m. Using a specially developed blending technology, the temperature data are combined with model data from the Global Forecast System. As a result, a high-precision temperature profile is generated up to a height of 10,000 m. The static part measures at the operating frequencies of 20.7 and 31.4 GHz. From these measurements, the total integral content of water vapor and liquid water is determined. From these measured values in combination with ground measurements (temperature, humidity), the humidity profile of 0-10 km is calculated and displayed in real time.
The atmospheric radiation is measured by scanning in angular steps from horizontal to vertical position. Vertical height and temperature from the 56.6 GHz receiver information are provided by the operating software from the raw data. The other operating frequencies (20.7 and 31.4 GHz) measure the total water vapor and liquid water content. The humidity profile from 0-10 km is calculated in real-time. Every 5 minutes the data is stored and profiles are displayed graphically.
